Prices and Terms of Commissions

The quality of my work speaks for itself, and will meet or exceed your expectations. Although other portrait artists may charge much more, price does not equate to quality and I would compare my rendering of facial features, body proportions, and hands with anyone's.

  If you are interested in commissioning a work, it's easy to do, and you'll owe me nothing till we reach a mutual agreement about all the specifics, and I'm ready to start work on your project.  You can mail or email your photos and other relevant info to:

I strive to keep my patrons informed of progress toward completion and to consult with them frequently during the process via email and photos of the project in progress.

NOTE: SIZES AND PRICES SHOWN ARE FOR DRAWINGS OR PAINTINGS ONLY.
MATTING WILL INCREASE THE SIZE OF THE FRAME REQUIRED, HOWEVER, MATTING AND GLASS IS NOT NEEDED OR RECOMMENDED FOR OIL PAINTINGS ON CANVAS. THE SIZES I HAVE OFFERED ARE CONSIDERED "STANDARD" SIZES SO THAT FRAMES CAN BE PURCHASED READY-MADE AT REASONABLE PRICES NEAR YOU.

 For a graphite portrait from your photo(s), my standard prices are:

1/3 deposit required before the actual work begins.

Pets or other animals: approximately 85% of the prices above
please allow 3 weeks for delivery

 For a colored pencil portrait from your photo(s), my standard prices are:

1/3 deposit required before the actual work begins.

I also do commissioned paintings of other subjects, such as scenic landscapes, figure studies, still lifes, horses, pets, houses, etc.

Any travel or photographic expenses necessary to complete your project are extra.

Artwork from your photograph(s)
If the artwork will be from more than one photo, all photos used will need to have similar lighting (front lighted, lighted from right or left) in order for the final work to best capture a proper likeness.

All work is subject to your approval.  It will be shipped unframed (unless otherwise arranged or specified), but will be securely packaged.  Shipping cost will be charged to the customer. If you don't like the result, you may return it within 10 days and receive a full refund, not including shipping charges.  Payment is required before artworks are shipped. However, I can create a temporary "private" webpage with a reduced resolution scan of your artwork and a "buy button" to enable you to use your credit card if you want that option using CCNow.

I do retain the right to approve and be compensated for any reproduction of commissioned artwork, but only if the reproductions are to be sold to other parties or used for commercial purposes. I also retain the right to decline any project for any reason. Although I have only listed prices for portraits of people, I can do other subjects, including pets, landscapes, and still lifes plus other custom work, including nude poses. Ethnicity of the subject is not a consideration in pricing or a problem in execution as long as the photo(s) are of adequate quality. ~ Prices for pet portraits are generally lower than for people portraits. ~ Prices for landscapes and still lifes are variable depending on complexity, but are generally no higher than for portraits.
